About Chef Jessica Stutz
Chef Jessica Stutz brings 22 years of professional culinary experience to Homewood’s Farm to Peak series, and cooking creative menus with the best locally sourced ingredients is her passion.
Her approach to cooking and food is: “Use the best product available, cook with your heart and soul, present it in an understated elegant fashion, and always keep whom you are cooking for in mind.”
Her childhood was spent in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where she helped her family raise goats, chickens, ducks and rabbits while also tending vegetables in the family’s garden. Her father was a renowned commercial and big-catch fisherman, working in the Pacific Northwest, Caribbean, Africa and South America. Childhood summers were spent picking blackberries, making jam, cobblers and pies – and fishing for king salmon on the Klamath and Rogue rivers. She learned to bake by watching her grandmother make pastry by hand. Her grandfather, a trained chef, would cure, smoke and can his own catch. When she was 19, he gave her his 1920 copy of “The Epicurean” and his old-school carbon steel chef knives, and instructed her in the basics of skillful food preparation.
Chef Jessica’s first professional experience in 1990 at Gayle’s Bakery & Rosticceria in Capitola was serving hundreds of customers every weekend. Since then she has gained a wealth of experience working with some of Santa Cruz County’s best restaurateurs and wineries such as Michael's on Main, Convivio, Gabriella Café, Kelly’s French Bakery, Pearl Alley Bistro, Hunter Hill Vineyard & Winery and Vino Tabi Winery.
In 2007 she opened Coastal Catering, specializing in weddings and large events with a focus on farm-to-table dining, then transitioned that to her current Coastal Culinary personal chef services. At every event, she strives to exceed expectations, keeping in mind that food is both fuel for the body as well as an art form utilizing all five senses. Magic happens when these two concepts unite at the table.
