Ski areas traditionally generate sufficient revenue to sustain themselves through lift ticket sales. However, this business model has not been successful at Homewood. With limited bed capacity Homewood is primarily a commuter ski area. Highway 89 is already overcrowded on peak ski days and parking is inadequate to accommodate large skier turnouts.
A new business model is necessary for Homewood to remain a viable public recreational amenity. This new plan must not only limit peak skier visits and traffic but also attract visitors who will stay at the resort for several days.
